For this first post, I would like to reflect on social interactions. In a society where the cell phone has become the lifeline for many of us and where texting is replacing normal conversations it is important to ponder how this is affecting the new generations. As a marketing professor I have noticed substantial changes in the classroom these past few years. As a matter of fact, some of my marketing students identified this issue as a market opportunity and developed an amazing concept for their year end project: their idea was to develop a game to help teens build "social fluency" . How can we use technology to support human interactions without replacing them? How do we use technology to promote learning instead of distraction in the classroom? How do we regain social decency when the anonymity of the web allows abuse, bullying and cowardly behaviors? I propose to keep reflecting on this in the coming weeks. Odile Streed PhD
